Policies

Library Cards are free of charge to borrowers with proper identification, which includes a picture and current address. Children up through seventh grade must be accompanied by a parent with proper identification. One card is good for all public libraries in Onondaga County. The library must be notified of lost or stolen cards and changes of address. A library card or identification with name and address is required to sign out materials.

Loan Period is three weeks for most items. Popular music, most DVDs, children's holiday books, and magazines are loaned for one week. Rapid Reads are loaned for one week, no renewals, and must be returned to the Baldwinsville Public Library. Longer loan periods are possible for items that normally circulate for three weeks. Up to 50 items may be borrowed at one time on one card, except for children's holiday books, which are limited to three per library card for each holiday. Materials,  borrowed from any library in the Onondaga County Public Library System may be returned to the Baldwinsville Public Library. unless otherwise marked.

Renewals are allowed twice on most items unless another patron is waiting for them or they are subject to other special restrictions. Materials that circulate for one or two weeks may not be renewed.  Materials may be renewed over the telephone or on-line.

Book Drop may be used to return all library materials and it is open 24/7.

Fines are 20 cents per item per day for all overdue materials. Maximum fines are $3 for fiction paperbacks, magazines, and maps; $5 for all other materials. The maximum fine on multiple overdue items is $20 per library card if the fine is paid at one time provided the items were checked out at Baldwinsville. Replacement cost is charged for lost or damaged items. Borrowing privileges are suspended if fines and/or charges reach $5, or if items are overdue longer than one month.

Grace Period of three days without fines is allowed on late items. Materials returned after the grace period will accrue fines from the due date.

Holds may be placed on items that are out or not available through the Baldwinsville Public Library. Patrons have seven days to pick up materials after notification by telephone. There is no charge for this service. Patrons may ask a staff person at the circulation or information desk to place holds. In addition, patrons may place holds themselves directly on the public access catalog using a pin number or by accessing the catalog via the Internet or by using a modem. Internet Access is available. Time can be reserved up to two weeks ahead of time and users must agree to abide by the library's Internet policy. There is also wireless access to the Internet.  When you open the wireless access point on your computer you need to click on the link for Public Library 2.  A password is not required and it is a unsecure network.  Black and white printing, including wireless printing, is available for 10 cents per page.  Color printing is available for 50 cents per page from any library desktop computer.

Local History materials may be used only in the Local History Room. Assistance is available at the information desk.

Meeting Rooms are available for use by community groups and organizations, and must be scheduled in advance by calling or coming in to the library.

Study Rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis and may not be reserved ahead of time.

Smoking is not allowed on library property.

Alcohol, bare feet, and animals (with the exception of guide dogs) are not allowed in the library.

Food is allowed only in the meeting rooms.

Beverages are allowed in the library if the container has a cap or cover.

Disturbances may result in patrons being asked to leave. Library staff members should be notified if someone is creating a disturbance.
