Sunday, August 24 – Can You Make It?

Baldwinsville Public Library is holding a “comic-con” complete with author visits, vendors, cosplay and gaming! 

To register as an attendee go to our Library Calendar entry for the August 24 event and click Sign Up. This event is free!

Got a great idea for a session? If you can present a program, panel, or speaker, fill out our Session Proposal Form and send it to with the subject "ComicConVersation Proposal."

Our plans include:Joe Orsak and Doug Brode presenting Virgin Vampires

  • Art exhibit all through August by Joe Orsak - Reception Aug. 6 at 7 pm
  • 3 “Prelude” events Saturdays 1-3 pm, including 
    • Your Cosplay Character (8/2), 
    • Cosplay Props (8/9), and 
    • Create an Online Comic (8/16)
  • The main ComicConVersation event on August 24, a Sunday – the event will use the entire building. Doors open at Noon, registration until 12:30, no fee to attend!
  • A Cosplay Costume Competition and Create a Comic Contest, with awards handed out at the 7pm Awards Ceremony 
  • An Artists’ Alley with both artists and local organizations: think SCA, Anime Syracuse, TEOS etc.
  • Vendors from local gaming & comic stores
  • A gaming room run by the local game/comic book stores
  • Portrait photos taken of cosplays 
  • Food sold by local vendors between 5-6:30 pm

All attendees of Comic ConVersation must follow the Site Rules! We have special rules regarding costumes as well as general behavior. You will be asked to read those rules before entering the event; please read them now if you plan to wear a costume. 

Cosplay Costume Competition:
Judging will take place at the ComicConVersation starting at 1 pm until done. Doctor Who Cosplay at BPLPrizes will be announced at the Awards Ceremony in the evening, starting at 7 pm in the Community Room. What are the prizes? Check here closer to the event!  Rules about costumes, including limitations on weapons, are in the Site Rules. Please submit a completed Cosplay Entry Form for this competition as soon as possible.

Create a Comic Contest:
Create and submit a cartoon or comic strip made by you! There will be separate categories for Original art hand-drawn or computer designed by you , or Generated comics created using "make-your-own" clip-art websites or programs.
Please submit a completed Comics Entry Form for this competition along with the artwork to be entered.
A class on Generated comics websites is offered on Saturday, August 16!

Artists' Alley - Artists and clubs or organizations with information tables

Con Vendors - Stores and businesses offering con-style merchandise

Food Vendors - All vendors primarily selling food
