A Place to Learn, Connect, and Grow: BPL’s New Learning Center created in memory of Linda Clarkson
October is National Principals Month, a time to recognize the educators who help students, families, and entire school communities thrive. This October, Baldwinsville Public Library is honoring the memory of one such educator, Linda Clarkson, by announcing the opening of the Linda Clarkson Learning Center, a welcoming space made possible through a generous donation in her memory.
Linda, who passed away on September 29, 2024, dedicated 36 years of her life to education, including serving as principal of Fremont Elementary School. Her career was built around helping students learn, supporting teachers, and creating environments where people could reach their potential. It is fitting that her legacy will continue through a space dedicated to learning and connection in the community she called home.
Learning doesn’t stop when the buses pull away. It happens when a student works through a challenging assignment, when a tutor helps someone gain confidence in a new skill, and when neighbors gather to learn from one another.
Located at Baldwinsville Public Library, the Linda Clarkson Learning Center is a publicly available meeting space, study room, tutoring room, and much more. The room is already part of the library’s weekly rhythm, hosting a variety of activities, including a monthly free legal clinic and a weekly Thursday bridge group. Whether you’re looking for a quiet place to concentrate, somewhere to meet with a tutor, or a comfortable setting for a small group to gather, the Learning Center offers a place to make those connections happen. The Learning Center is also equipped with a projector, computer, and speakers for presentations or movie watching.
Thanks to the generosity of Linda’s family who donated in Linda’s honor, community members can book the space through the Baldwinsville Public Library website. This support has made it possible to dedicate a room to a purpose that reflects Linda’s lifelong commitment to education while giving residents a practical resource they can use throughout the year.
